What Can Guided Meditation Do for You?

Buddhist monks hold their orange robes while offering prayers during a ...Okay, lets be clear about something from the start – guided meditation is not meditation in the classic sense. Is that alright with you?

Meditation from a more stereotypical viewpoint, i.e. Buddhist Monks chanting, is freeing oneself from thoughts and everything connected to the material world and tapping into an ocean of pure vibrant consciousness. There are various avenues one can take to this level of consciousness, but the destination should be the same.

Guided meditation is rather different. It equates more to self hypnosis. Whenever you listen to a self hypnosis CD or MP3, you follow a voice that focuses your mind and guides you from your normal alert state, called the Beta state, down to the Theta state, which is where the level of brain activity is akin to just before you fall asleep or daydreaming. It is in this state the subconscious mind opens up to new suggestions. Behaviors we have repeated over and over again for years becomes ingrained in our psyche. Behaviors such as smoking for example, or other such deeds that are detrimental to our health and general well being. Opening up our subconscious in this way can fast track new behaviors that are better for us.

Guided meditation works in a similar vain. Again, a voice guides you to essentially take you on a journey. You may be asked to smell the flowers you see, feel the breeze wash over your face , things that you can actually sense as if it were real and tangible. Deep in your mind, it is.

With guided meditation you are not confined to taking journeys through a fantasy land where everything is perfect. With your mind open, you can create new confidence, raise self awareness and esteem. You can sharpen business and personal acumen. The possibilities are truly astounding.

Some say guided meditation, some say self hypnosis. Call it whatever you like, our personal shortcomings and flaws can be corrected in the Theta state of mind.
