A Great Evil is Reborn

For this year’s GenCon gaming convention, my buddy Chuck and I wrote an original Castles and Crusades adventure. At first, Chuck claimed he didn’t have time to co-write with me, but I bribed him with a set of cool dice in my collection that he had his eye on. After accepting the bribe, Chuck and I got to work. In the end, I was very pleased with the results of our work (and to think, it only cost me a set of rpg dice to get the job done). In our adventure, a great evil is reborn and is planning to once again inflict the world with its terrible wrath. Check out the following scene:

The spirits took the form of a single black cloaked figure, twin eyes of poisonous green burning brightly beneath the folds of a voluminous hood. Legion raised its arms and rejoiced in its freedom. For too long it had been imprisoned far beneath the surface of the earth. It would stretch its hand again across the world of the living and cause destruction and death worse than the first time. “Yes,” it cooed to itself. “Yes.”

Standing tall in the center of the chamber, it could sense weakness in the world. The elves were not as powerful as they had been, nor the dwarves. The magic of the living was dead or dying. The world had gone soft in its absence, and would soon suffer for it. Nonetheless, there still existed magic to oppose it. Legion would bide its time. It was still weak, it knew, and needed to consolidate its strength before striking. Already, it called out to the trolls and goblins and minor spirits, like itself, that haunted the Soulless Mountains. It would assemble armies to march across the earth and raze the cities of the living. It would enslave or destroy all that would oppose it, and would poison the very land itself. There would be suffering. There would be death. With each drop of blood that stained the ground, Legion would rejoice.

A peal of laughter shook the very stones of Horothagh above as the sun disappeared and the world was plunged again into darkness.
